Nationally Certified Wildlife Habitats

The Wildlife Habitat Council, an international corporate environmental advocacy organization, has designated four Bayer locations in the U.S. as Certified Wildlife Habitats:

Pittsburgh, PA
The Habitat at Bayer's 300 acre Pittsburgh campus includes a hardwood forest, meadows, fields and a pond... and houses such animals as bluebirds, beaver, red-tailed hawks, turkeys, American kestrels, Canadian geese, fox, deer, and a variety of plants and wildflowers. All this is linked by a 1-mile "wellness trail" that encircles the beautiful campus terrain which extends into the adjacent state run Settlers Cabin Park.

Bushy Park, SC
Plenty of wild critters - from wood ducks, to butterflies, to birds, to deer - enjoy an enriched life and comfortable habitat thanks to the efforts of hundreds of Bushy Park volunteers. Certified by the national Wildlife Habitat Council, the Bushy Park site was honored in 1999 by the South Carolina Waterfowl Association as Lower Coastal Corporate Conservator of the Year. This is the third time since 1994 that we have received this prestigious award. Our people build nesting sites, grow foods, and expand safe habitats on plant grounds as well as in the surrounding area.

Haledon, NJ
As a member of the American Chemistry Council, Bayer is committed to going beyond compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances. This commitment is clearly evident at our Haledon, New Jersey site, which is a closed landfill.

West Haven, CT
A facility expansion at West Haven in 1996 included preservation of seven acres of wetlands along the environmentally rich Oyster River Nature Area watercourse and wooded glen in the center of the company's pharmaceutical manufacturing site. For its efforts in enhancing that habitat for fish and other wildlife, the facility was presented with the Green Circle Award by the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.
