| Creating and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment at each Bayer facility is the right thing to do for our employees, for the residents of the communities in which our plants are located and for the environment. It's also just plain good business.
We operate our business with the consent of our neighbors. And we know community consent is inextricably linked to the safe operation of our facilities and conscientious attention to all phases of manufacture, distribution and use of our products.
To achieve and maintain excellence in individual health and safety and in our production standards, each of the 50 Bayer sites nationwide establishes annual goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-bound, evaluated and renewed.
Employee education is an important part of Bayer's safety program. Monthly safety meetings are conducted by each department at all Bayer locations and cover topics ranging from the dangers of horseplay in the work place to operating heavy equipment, handling hazardous chemicals and driving in winter conditions.
Our concern for safety extends to the families of Bayer employees who benefit from on-going proactive safety programs offered at various Bayer sites. Such programs range from CPR training and water-safety instruction, a safety, environment and health day; driving instruction for teens; and an in-line skating clinic sponsored by the Polyurethanes and Plastics divisions in Pittsburgh.
Our safety culture is governed by five key principles:
- All injuries are preventable
- Safety is good business
- Management is accountable
- Employees are the key
- Safety must be managed through a structured process
Bayer is an industry leader in safety goal setting. We are dedicated to being not just better than we were last year
not just better than most other companies
but to being the best in the world. We are dedicated to performing every day, at every turn and on all issues as though no goalother than being the cleanest and safest manufacturer in the worldis worthy of Bayer.
